Focus On Life~Week 3

Take Time

It can be so hard to take a little time for yourself.  Be it is so important to your well being to find time to recharge!  This week I challenged myself and the participants of the “Focus On Life” group to take time for themselves and NOT feel guilty about it!

After processing and adding a texture:

Not only was I determined to find a few moments of time to sip a cup of tea and catch up on some beady reading with out starting the washer, folding clothes, starting dinner, getting someone a drink of juice and on and on….. but when I started to load the photos into the computer I realized the house was quite.  There was no one there but me, so instead of using the time to catch up on house work I took the half hour of quiet to play  with a few photos.  I was playing with processing and textures and having so much FUN!!  The little recharge really got my creativity flowing!

Be sure to check out the lovely links hooking up below!

Thank you Sally! I truly enjoyed this week’s challenge – it was the impetus I needed to do something I love, but hadn’t allowed myself to do in ages.

Isn’t it fun to play with photos?! It’s amazing the ‘darkroom’ options we now have on our computers. I really enjoyed seeing your before and after shots. Your processing made the shot so atmospheric. I am always in awe of your photography.

Taking time for a nice cup of tea. That’s real “me time.” Lovely shot and pretty cup, too. Interesting texture choice!

Patti VanderbloemenJanuary 18, 2013 - 9:15 pm

First of all – I have always loved your photography and the textures you created on the teacup are so cool! So glad you found time for yourself – unlike the first post (Self Portrait)!

This week’s prompt was HARD for me – I have come to the realization that I do not carve time out for me – ever. This will change! Thank you for the eye opener! :)

TanyaJanuary 18, 2013 - 9:54 pm

I love your pictures. The first one is awesome and that last one is amazing with the texture. I’m glad you were able to catch up on your beady reading. Thise are some of my favorites.

Lori FJanuary 18, 2013 - 9:55 pm

Had fun with this week, Sally! :-) Looking forward to our next challenge as well.

Laura TwifordJanuary 18, 2013 - 10:21 pm

Sally your photography is outstanding! It really captured the moment of peace and tranquility you carved out for yourself. The viewer can feel the quiet. Thank you again for such a great prompt this week!

KashmiraJanuary 18, 2013 - 10:27 pm

Awww…so sorry that it is so hard for you to get quiet time! I hope that changes and you are able to carve out some me time regularly into your life.

The pictures look beautiful! I am so behind on my photo processing skills, need to learn!

ThereseJanuary 18, 2013 - 11:18 pm

Hi Sally,
A hot cup of tea and beading books sounds like a great way to relax. I love the photo editing you got to play around with when you had the house to yourself.

Very haunting in all the best ways! I think when I first looked the string of the tea bag has the effect of a spider web and then I couldn’t help but see it that way. I’m glad it was enjoyed and not left to get cold as you attend to others :)

StacieJanuary 19, 2013 - 12:16 am

That is just so cool! Have you been over to Kim Klassen’s site? She is the bomb with textures! Lovely tea time…thank you for the peak into your sacred time!!

LolaJanuary 19, 2013 - 1:03 am

Your photos are fantastic as always Sally! I love getting lost in the creative process and I’m so glad you temporarily ignored those nasty household chores for some photo processing fun! =)

AnnetteJanuary 19, 2013 - 1:11 am

It IS fun to play with the photos. And your photos are beautiful! I took time for tea too! :)

TariJanuary 19, 2013 - 1:19 am

Lovely photos! I really like the texturizing on the teacup. Those also look like great books btw. This is such a wonderful project-I am looking forward to next week’s focus!!!

CindyJanuary 19, 2013 - 1:52 am

Sally, what a beautiful composition. And such a pretty tea cup! Oh I am not surprised that this is how you like to spend your free moments (and I did say MOMENTS – your’e a busy working Mom!)…hot tea and with your love of photography. Here’s to tea time!

ClaireJanuary 19, 2013 - 3:22 am

again, i forgot to play with the picasa tools in my rush to post – which rather missed the point of the exercise…
but i did paint for the first time :)
a gorgeous photo – tea + books = heaven *sigh*

This was a great prompt Sally. Got me doing something I haven’t done in awhile and I enjoyed it so much. Love your photos and how you recharged. Thanks so much for having this weekly challenge–it is so enriching.

Lesley WattJanuary 19, 2013 - 7:58 am

Great prompt Sally – you are fast becoming my Jiminy Cricket! Lover the texturing effect on the teacup – I would love more time to play with photos for interest rather than shop listings!

AliciaJanuary 19, 2013 - 8:54 am

I think reading is the best relaxing activity – and my #1 choice too :) Your photographs are gorgeous – I am glad you got a chance to have a quiet house and share these beauties with us!

Kathleen Lange KlikJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:04 am

The photo of your tea cup is really beautiful and I like the texture you added in; it creates a sense of mystery. It would make a great cover photo for a novel!

This week’s challenge was easy for me as I take the same mental break pretty much each day! It brings me a sense of calm and bliss. Regardless of what one does throughout the day, as you said, we all need to take time for our self!

TracyJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:05 am

Beautiful texture Sally! I’m starting to drink more herbal tea in the evening. I find it very relaxing too. Thanks for a great prompt!

Donna BradleyJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:13 am

I love your photos, Sally! What a great prompt this week, and I love your photo of the teacup. It looks wonderful with the texture you choose, and that you were having FUN with it! :)

CynthiaJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:19 am

Sally .. you too! a cup of tea LOL! I linked up last night and promptly went to bed. But now I’ve got the kettle on, and about to grab my cup of tea and visit blogs – my me time for the week :) Really love the texturing you’ve done with your pic this week!

Michelle B.January 19, 2013 - 9:28 am

Love your pics Sally, those textures are very cool and that tea cup is so pretty – reminds me of my grandmother’s. It makes me want to take one of hers out next time and drink from it when I Take Time for myself! Thanks for the weekly challenge!

PattyJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:46 am

I have such a hard time commenting I didn’t even get here last week! Yes tea, coffee, chocolate and bacon make for a sweet break in the day! I wanted to get out this week but it wasn’t happening so I looked inward for my escape! XOXO Happy Sunday Sally!

Erin Prais-HintzJanuary 19, 2013 - 9:54 am

Thank you for doing this Miss Sally. It is amazing to me that I need to have ‘permission’ to do something good for myself. But I have decided that once a month I will do this so that I can have something to look forward to! Enjoy the day. Erin

AliceJanuary 19, 2013 - 11:45 am

Good for you! It’s not often that the house is quiet and I’m glad you carved out time to play. I love how you added texture to that lovely photo.

Linda HanesJanuary 19, 2013 - 3:35 pm

I appreciate that you took the time to learn something new about photo editing. Learning something new can be so fulfilling. I know it is hard to find time for yourself when you have little ones depending on you. That time will come to you but then as they grow the demands of life change with them, be ready to evolve and go with the flow. I must say I truly appreciate your weekly prompts. I was able to do a few things last week without any guilt just because of your prompt. <3 that!

kimJanuary 20, 2013 - 10:26 am

I love your pictures…oh it is fun to sit down and play with all the photo shop stuff. I haven’t played with textures in awhile. You inspire me to try them again! loving this challenge!

Becky PancakeJanuary 20, 2013 - 11:04 am

Sally,I like what you did to your pic. I signed up for Intreweave’s class on using photoshop this week. I hope to learn a lot. Tea certainly is a good way to relax. Thanx for giving me the nudge I needed to really work on my photos this year.

BethJanuary 20, 2013 - 11:20 am

Sally I love your pic and the texture you added! What a wonderful way to spend your “me” time!

MeelingJanuary 20, 2013 - 11:50 am

Great prompt this week – loved it!

Love your play with the textures on the teacup – very cool!

(I’m #40 this week)

HollyJanuary 20, 2013 - 12:14 pm

Sally, sometimes there’s nothing like a nice cup of tea and reading material to get back to the real you, isn’t there? Just love your photos and the editing is just yum! :)

Cynthia@OrnamentalStyleJanuary 20, 2013 - 11:21 pm

A lovely stolen afternoon.

SuzetteJanuary 21, 2013 - 10:31 am

I’m a coffee drinker so drinking a cup each day is a little time for me…great photo and LOVE your tea cup! Have a great week!

CraftyHopeJanuary 22, 2013 - 8:52 pm

I’m finally finding some time myself to get to hopping. I’m only a few days late on this and I apologize for the delay. At least I had my post ready to go. . .that was something.
Now, about your shots. I really love your first picture with the books included. There’s something so professional and ‘glossy’ about it. Don’t get me wrong, I do love an aged texture to a photo, but that first one really sings to me.
I hope you find some time this week to do what YOU want to do as well.
