Rising Tide

You’re an island of a girl
Adrift in a world with a rising tide
You know that the coming storm
Is gonna be a crazy ride

With your altars made of trash
The aftermath
Of disposable dreams
You know that you were born
For more than what machines provide

I will write you a song that sounds like
A faded photograph
Of your favorite night
Just a little something to remember me by

You can sing along
If you like it enough
Play it on your phonograph
It sounds kinda rough
It’s just a little something to remember me by

You’re an ocean of a girl
Surrounding a world
With a blackening tide
You know that the coming storm
Is gonna be a crazy ride

With your altars made of bones
The aftermath
Of disposable wings
You know that you were born
For more than what machines provide
Machines provide

I will write you a song that sounds like
A faded photograph
Of your favorite night
Just a little something to remember me by

You can sing along
If you like it enough
Play it on your phonograph
It sounds kinda rough
It’s just a little something to remember me by

You can sing along if you like it enough
Just a little something to remember me by

I have no poetic explanation for the specific design of the necklace, simply it was inspired by the song.  When I listen to “Rising Tide”  the above design  is what I see, what I visualize.    Ocean blues, oil black as night, seaweed greens,  patina metals like dreams aged by time and wire wrappings a turmoil of rising tides.

Beats Antique has assisted me through many a bead enameling marathon!  A truly unique experience to your ears! I love the electonica and world beats with an accompaniment  of string orchestra, heavy bass and mixes of smooth pop hooks it is like sensory over load for your body.   You just need to move!   To learn more about Beats Antique please visit there website here.

I would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to Erin Prais-Hintz of Treasure’s Found for hosting a challenging but FUN Blog Hop!!

Miss Sally! I am so thrilled and honored that you chose to play along with me for this challenge. I am struck by the poetry of the lyrics “You are an island of a girl”. Then I looked at the pictures of this amazing design. I love it! The rough and tumble pendant, the movement of the dangles and then that bright pop of seaweed green! Finally I realized that I needed to listen to the music. It is much different than I thought it would be with its driving beat and hard edge. But I like it! Thank you for playing with me and for introducing me to new music. I feel like I know you a little better with this glimpse into your musical personality!
Enjoy the day!
Erin

Love that piece. Couldn’t get the music to play on my laptop though. I will have to listen later, I want to hear the song with the piece! You know I love sea inspired jewelry with a rustic feel…so this is a new favorite of mine!!!

Sally, I love the feel of this music – another fan of electronica/world music, I find it’s always so amazing and unique. And your necklace is just amazing, and totally fits in with “amazing and unique” vibe the song portrays. That focal is just stunning…

Elisabeth - February 29, 2012 - 10:03 am

Looooove it. Gallery worthy!

Kristen - February 29, 2012 - 11:39 am

You don’t need words to describe the feelings that you had when creating. They totally show with this design. Outstanding!

Erin Fickert-Rowland - February 29, 2012 - 11:50 am

Sally! I totally dig that song! I had never heard of this band, so I will definitely be checking them out! I think your piece is beautiful, and I love how you described the images that came to mind while listening to this song. Great job!

Christine Altmiller - February 29, 2012 - 1:40 pm

Sally, this is Fantastic! I can see and feel the yearning to be calm and peaceful but instead being thrust into turbulence by something beyond your control. The song and the necklace go together perfectly!

Alice - February 29, 2012 - 2:03 pm

I love the rustic feel of this piece, like something ancient thrust upon the shore waiting to be discovered, or a tale just waiting to be told. I like the song you chose, though it’s one I’ve never heard before (which doesn’t surprise me).

Cynthia - February 29, 2012 - 2:36 pm

Lovely necklace – very artistic, calming, ancient. Love it.

maneki - February 29, 2012 - 4:02 pm

Very pretty necklace! I like how you visualized the song. The design is lovely, really like the setting (pendant), the colours and the earthy metal.

And as also nice to get to know some new music. Hadn’t heard of them before.

Therese - February 29, 2012 - 5:36 pm

Sally,
I love your piece it is so awesomely beautiful. I visualized a girl dancing to the music of the song trilling and clapping her hands to the beat full of laughter with a come what may attitude.

This line really speaks to me “You’re an island of a girl
Adrift in a world with a rising tide” and I love how you brought it to life with elements that feel like secrets that came from the sea. xoxo Beth

Shaiha - February 29, 2012 - 6:02 pm

I love this music. Even my husband immediately looked up the band. He loves finding new music.

And your necklace is stunning. Rough edgy strong and feminine all at once.

Jennifer - February 29, 2012 - 7:58 pm

Ohhhh Sally! I would totally wear this! This is gorgeous! I have never heard this band or song, but WOW! So amazing, love the lyrics too, just awesome! Thank you so much for sharing!

Bobbie - February 29, 2012 - 8:00 pm

What a cool song, and what a great necklace — I especially like the line about writing songs that sound like faded photographs, and the collection of textures and materials is like a combination of treasured memories. Great, great, wow!

Marsha Neal Studio - February 29, 2012 - 11:45 pm

Oh – I SO get it! I think I’m going to have to get some of their music for some studio inspiration… Love the colors & shapes of the pieces you decided to use in your jewelry design. I would totally wear it!

Beth - March 1, 2012 - 7:23 am

Gorgeous piece – love it!

Stefanie - March 1, 2012 - 8:26 am

Oh wow, that is awesome!

Jenny - March 1, 2012 - 9:40 am

Sally – its perfect. The two layers of tide. The detritus washed up, beauty and decay simultaneously. I would wear that often!!! Liked the band, will look into them more. Thanks for a gorgeous post!

Pixiloo - March 1, 2012 - 5:06 pm
